I can’t find any evidence that the Romans ever had any kind of writing desk or table. In fact, a lot of modern furniture is entirely unknown to the Romans. They didn’t have mirrors, dressers or chiffoniers, glass-doored cabinets for the display of bric-a-brac or books, mantels, or even hat racks.
